Ashley Vance is a PhD candidate in United States history. Her dissertation focuses on the US Army’s presence in Germany in the decades following World War II. Specifically, she examines how the US military created a unique Cold War army in West Germany that was combat ready for a peacetime deployment. She also addresses the soldiers’ lived experience and how their perceptions and behavior influenced Army policy at the time. Ms. Vance is currently the Department of History's Career Diversity Fellow.
