Bio Note:
Brianna Kirk is a Ph.D. candidate in the Corcoran Department of History at the University of Virginia. Her work focuses on the Civil War and Reconstruction, with an emphasis on the immediate post-Civil War world. Her dissertation examines the intersections between military occupation and racial violence in Virginia during and after the Civil War and their implications for the broader policies of Reconstruction. She received her B.A. in history from Gettysburg College in 2015, and an M.A. in history from the University of Virginia in 2019.
