ABC-Clio Research Grants

In partnership with ABC-Clio, the Society for Military History will award two grants of $500 to support research in military history by graduate students or historians without a doctoral degree. Funds are intended to support specific research tasks, including but not limited to archival/field work, the purchase of research materials, and fees associated with the use of digital collections.

Applicants must be current members of the Society for Military History, and either: a) a graduate student currently enrolled in a doctoral program, or, b) employed full-time as a professional historian without having obtained a doctoral degree.

The prize committee will consider the originality and quality of the proposed research, the cost-effectiveness of the proposal, and the likelihood that the research will contribute to the development of the field of military history.

Application packets will consist of a brief cover letter outlining the specific research needs to be addressed by this funding, CV, and a budget. A letter of reference from the applicant’s doctoral advisor or another individual familiar with the applicant’s scholarship should be sent separately.

Material should be sent to Adam Seipp (aseipp@tamu.edu) by January 15, 2017. The winners will be announced in early February. Awardees will be honored at the Society’s annual awards luncheon and will receive a complimentary ticket to this event.
